March 23, 2020

Hillsboro R-III Community,

I want to reach out to you and provide an update on the COVID-19 situation. To remain consistent with the announcement of stay-at-home regulations for March 24, 2020 - April 23, 2020, from the Jefferson County Health Department and Jefferson County Executive’s Office, The Hillsboro R-III School District will remain closed through Monday, April 27, 2020. The reopening date is subject to change pending further information. We will continue to re-evaluate and determine if we will be able to return to school on that date.

We understand everyone will be impacted and lives will be disrupted by our decision, but we believe we need to take such actions to protect everyone. The decision will also affect many activities, events, and traditions; however, we will do everything that we can to salvage part of the remainder of this school year. This includes graduation and other important events.

Continued Learning and Support While school buildings are closed, our commitment to students remains the same. Our teachers, staff, and leaders are working hard to ensure we can continue to provide support for our students and our communities. We will continue operating as we are now; students working with teachers online or with packets and encouraging learning opportunities at home. We will be sending additional communication tomorrow to outline parent pick up of written material if necessary. Additional information will be available on our district website under the COVID-19 page on learning activities over the extended closure. (linked below in the comments)

Food Service and Pick-Up Meals are available for pick-up 11am-1pm Monday-Friday at the Intermediate School. Children do not have to qualify for free or reduced lunch to receive a meal. Any child 18 years of age or younger can receive a meal. Meals are also available to persons with disabilities who are over 18, but participate in a school program. The food program is open to students in neighboring school districts that are not offering meals at this time. Each child can get one sack per day, which includes lunch and breakfast for the next day - Monday-Friday.

Please see link below in the comments to fill out a form so we are aware of the number of meals to have available each day. If you have any questions, please email Kim Jackson at

In the meantime, we urge you to comply with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and practice social distancing and staying home as much as possible. This is an unprecedented case in which it truly takes everyone to help end this crisis.

We will continue to communicate using our various methods. Please ensure your contact information is up-to-date with the building office and you are connected to one or more of the following:

Thank you for your continued patience, cooperation and support of our students, teachers and the community. We all are so proud to be part of this school and community! Go Hawks!

Please stay safe and be well!
