Following a careful and comprehensive selection process, the Hillsboro R-3 Board of Education approved the appointment of Mr. William Reece as the next Principal of Hillsboro High School, effective July 1, 2026. Mr. Reece will succeed Mr. Mark Groner, who will retire at the end of the current school year after many years of dedicated service to the district.
Mr. Reece joined the Hillsboro R-3 School District in 2023 and has served as an Assistant Principal at both The Learning Center and Hillsboro High School. During his tenure, he has established himself as a consistent and visible presence in classrooms and hallways while building strong, positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
The role of a high school principal is one of the most demanding leadership positions in any school district. It requires visibility, high expectations, follow-through, and respect for the building's established culture. Mr. Reece has demonstrated these qualities throughout his time in the district and brings a strong commitment to maintaining Hillsboro High School’s positive culture while continuing to pursue meaningful improvement.
The district extends its sincere appreciation to Mrs. Hildebrand for leading the selection process, to the hiring committee for their time and dedication, and to the many staff members who provided thoughtful feedback throughout the process. The themes of trust, continuity, visibility, and care for students and staff were clearly reflected in the Board’s decision.
Between now and the start of the 2026–2027 school year, the district will work intentionally to ensure a smooth transition and continued stability for students and staff.
Please join us in congratulating Mr. Reece on his appointment and in thanking Mr. Groner for his years of leadership and service to Hillsboro High School.
Dr. Jon Isaacson
Superintendent
