Hillsboro R-3 Board Of Education Hawk Award Winners Names Announced 2025-2026

Two women from Hillsboro Intermediate School are being recognized for the lasting impact they continue to make on students, staff, and the Hillsboro R-3 community.

Kathy Wynn and Stacey Schmidt were recently honored with the prestigious Hawk Award, which recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding service and dedication to the Hillsboro R-3 School District and community.

For many at the Intermediate School, Kathy Wynn has become someone staff members can always count on. Though retired, she continues to volunteer her time, support teachers and staff, and help wherever she is needed. Members of the 6th grade team described her as “the indispensable heart of our community” while nominating her for the award.

Stacey Schmidt, the kitchen manager at the Intermediate School, was recognized for the opportunities she has created for students in the district’s Community Based Vocational Instruction (CBVI) program. Schmidt has partnered with students at The Learning Center, allowing them to gain real-world job experience and develop workplace skills that will help prepare them for future employment opportunities after graduation.

Both women were recognized not only for what they do each day, but for the way they care for others and positively impact the people around them.

The Hillsboro R-3 School District congratulates Kathy Wynn and Stacey Schmidt on receiving the Hawk Award and thanks them for the difference they continue to make throughout Hawk Nation.
