Aids students with lessons, corrects homework and provides students with positive feedback and constructive criticism on assignments.
Assists in administering tests to evaluate students’ progress; along with data collection when requested by the teacher.
Enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students for whom he/she is responsible.
Aids in maintaining discipline in the classroom.
Recognizes and refers students encountering medical, physical and/or psychological problems seeking the assistance of District specialists as required.
Monitors students during instruction and independent work to ensure they understand the material.
MARGINAL DUTIES
Participates in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, mentor programs and training workshops as needed.
Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.

HILLSBORO, Mo. — Hillsboro High School will host its 5th annual POW/MIA Ceremony and Football Game on Friday, Sept. 5th, honoring the sacrifices of American service members and their families. The Hillsboro R-3 School District was the first in the nation to be designated a POW/MIA School, and this tradition has become a powerful symbol of respect and remembrance for the community. Many surviving POW's and MIA family members will be in attendance.
The event has brought together students, athletes, veterans and community members to recognize those who were prisoners of war or remain missing in action. The evening includes a solemn ceremony followed by the football game, creating a moment of reflection as well as celebration of freedom.
“I have been very proud of the respect and reverence shown by our students, athletes, staff and community for our American heroes,” said Hillsboro High School Principal Mark Groner. “This event is one of the very best things that our school district does. If you haven’t been able to attend in the past, I wholeheartedly recommend that you be our guests this year. You won’t regret it.”

Students at Hillsboro Primary School are gaining confidence and joy in the classroom with the help of three certified therapy dogs. Marnie, a 1-year-old Chihuahua; Sugar, a 5-year-old Goldendoodle; and Oakley, a 4-year-old Labradoodle, each completed more than 20 weeks of training and passed the Canine Good Citizen test to prepare for their role in supporting students.
The dogs are helping students in literacy, music and physical education. Reading aloud to a therapy dog gives children a judgment-free listener that builds fluency and self-esteem. In music class, the dogs provide a calm and nonjudgmental audience, helping students overcome stage fright and experiment with sound and creativity. During physical education, their playful presence encourages reluctant students to join activities like running, playing fetch or guiding a dog through an obstacle course.
“All dogs are therapy dogs. We are fortunate enough to have three on hand daily to support our littles through their big emotions,” said Shannon Murray, Hillsboro Primary School principal.
